The 79th Dong-A Seoul International marathon was a very good one this year. Sammy Korir, of Kenya, won the race. His time was the best since April of 2006, and it was the fourth fastest of his career. His time was 2:07:32, very fast, considering he is 36 years old. The odds were against him, the entire pack of the men had stayed together until the 25 kilometer mark. However, Sammy Korir prevailed and won, with a sprint finish. The winner in the wormen's category was a Chinese runner named, Zhang Shujing. She had finished the race in 2:26:11. The race between the women here was decided much earlier than the men, and Zhang Shujing had gave her best time in five years to win it.

Jessica Morrow from Belfast's Kiryoku Karate Club has made her instructors proud by bringing home the gold from this year's WIKF British National Championships.
Although not her first UK title, this is Jessica’s first gold in senior ladies kata at national level. She also helped win a second consecutive team gold.
This has already been a big year for the 19-year-old as she was awarded her 1st Dan black belt by Sensei Tatsuo Suzuki (8th Dan) in February, as well as successfully defending the Northern Ireland title that she has held for four years.
She says, "I’m very proud of what I have achieved, but I could never have done it without my instructor".
With another title under her belt, Jessica is now looking ahead to the WIKF World Championships to be held in Portugal this July, and she hopes to soon become an assistant instructor at her club.

According to this article australian Ultimate Federation will be hosting a 24 hour Ultimate Frisbee party for charity. They plan to donate all of the money to the Children’s Hospital Neonatal Unit. Why are they doing this? They thought that it would be a fun and creative way to raise money for the Kids at the hospital. The party consists of food, tents and lots and lots of ultimate frisbee. Apperently this has already been done in other parts of the world but this will be the first time Australia will participate.

Muntain biker Fred Bull is the icest person you will probably ever meet. In 2002, he had a benign tumor removed from his head. The doctors told him he'd be fine. But he wasn't. Later on, he was found to have cancer in his head, and this too was removed. But it didn't go away. Two years ago, he was given 2-5 years to live. The cancer is terminal. It is very unfortunate that such a nice person would battle something so aweful. Although this doesn't drastically affect the sport, I think it will inspire many to go out and ride in his honor.

CLEARWATER, Fla. (Feb. 1) - A hole-in-one is rare on the golf course, but what are the odds of a blind golfer sinking one?

Leo Fiyalko couldn't see it, but his golf buddies did - a hole-in-one on the fifth hole at the Cove Cay Country Club.

Fiyalko is 92 and has macular degeneration. He's been golfing for 60 years, but his 110-yard shot with a five iron on Jan. 10 was his first hole-in-one.

"I was just trying to put the ball on the green," Fiyalko said.

Fiyalko tees off every Thursday with a group of golfers ranging in age from 70 to 90-plus. He used to have a seven handicap, but now he needs help lining up his shots and finding his golf balls because he only has peripheral vision in his right eye.

Jean Gehring was playing in his foursome and watched Fiyalko's swing.

"I could tell it went on the green, (but) when we got up there I didn't see it. I looked in the hole and there it was," Gehring said.

Gehring said Fiyalko brushed off the feat, and had to be prodded to tell his wife about it at the end of the round.

The article I found on skiing is called, “American accent on World Cup slopes: US skiers live up to ‘Best in the World’ slogan”. In this news article it talks about how America’s ski team has been called the best in the world. Since the Turin Olympics we have lost that slogan. Yet with Bode Miller and Lindsey Vonn they are trying to bring it back.

Bode Miller says,“It is cool to see us take those globes away from the Europeans once in a while,”

It is hard for the American professional skiers because they spend six months of the year over seas.

“To go on the road and sacrifice everything else in your life to purse a sport that you love, you need a family that supports you, and that family turns out to be your team, and then you can shine as an individual within that environment,” says Mc Nichol.

This year in Europe their skiers have been crashing. So hopefully American skiers will do good in next coming years.

"The Indianapolis star is reporting a 3-year-old girl nearly drowned in a bathtub as the girl’s mother was distracted by American Idol.
Indianapolis police say a mother of five was watching “American Idol” while her 3-year-old girl nearly drowned in a bathtub last week.
The 25 year-old-mother, Sheila R. Brooks, has yet to be charged in the incident that occurred last Thursday (Feb 28). The infant was left in a tub with her younger sister as the mother allegedly went for clothes and was distracted by ‘American Idol.’"
This story is significant because it shows the importance of learning how to swim, and the importance of responsibility for your children; leaving your child unattended in the bathtub is not the least bit responsible.

Back in late january Sean White, arguably one of snowboarding's most popular riders, won Men's superpipe in Aspen, Colorado in the 2008 winter X-games. His finishing run was flawless, a combo of style and finess like never seen before. This was his third consecutive gold in superpipe at the x-games. His crowd wowing 1260 spin was the trick that put the cherry on the sunday. After he landed it he knew that he he was guaranteed the most altitude on the podium.
